When I first decided to do this line, I knew I was not re-inventing the wheel. There are SO many athletic wear companies out there and I knew it was going to be a challenge. I shared my idea with family and friends with their support, I took on the challenge. While moving through the different stages of building my business, I would lean on those that were confident, strong and had a very good sense of who they are. Of course, I am referring to women. Now, don't get me wrong, we need those fantastic men out there for their support, strength, love and a little eye candy from time to time . . . but there is something about connecting with the likeness of yourself to motivate you to move to the next stage in your life.
The next step after building out my ideas and making them tangible was selling the product. I started on different paths and finally started hitting the running and fitness expos. Men were amazed at what was put together soley by a woman and that was a cool feeling. But to get positive feedback from other women and feel their energy! That is what keeps me going!
Face it, women can be VERY critical of one another but when the time comes, we can be the most supportive, caring and strength building individuals anyone can come by. Heck, that is why men fall in love with us!
TEAM DiRTY ReD basically formed itself. Yes, of course it was just a conversation that I had with one amazing Chicago runner but it has formed into the unity of women that have the same passion and strength for physical activity! It's one thing to run a 10K, marathon or do a triathlon alone but to have the support of other women behind you . . . you feel so empowered.
For me, its like running the 400 meter dash, the last 50 meters seems like 500 meters and you just need that extra . . . YOU GO GURL to get you to the finish line! You see your gurls along the stretch and you have to finish looking good and strong. That is an awesome feeling.
Also my new Chi-town gurlfriends and Indiana crew!
