What is StandUp4Kids?
STANDUP FOR KIDS is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1990 to help rescue homeless and at-risk youth. With national headquarters in San Diego, California, STANDUP FOR KIDS is run almost entirely by volunteers, and has programs in a number of states.
STANDUP FOR KIDS targets homeless and at-risk youths age 21 and younger. Based on current estimates, there are more than one and a half million children, teenagers and young adults trying to survive on U.S. streets today. If all of the homeless youth were in one city, it would be the seventh largest in the US.
How You Can Help!
Participate, watch and / or follow Kate Deering and Nicol Akins in the ULTIMATE FITNESS CHALLENGE! For every mile that we run, bike or swim we encourage you to donate a dollar! The money raised will go to 7 kids that are currently using the Stand Up For Kids program that are in school and trying to move toward a brighter and homeful future!
Our focus will be on 7 kids that are attending school and use the StandUp4Kids program. What they need are clothes, shoes, supplies for school and a place to go to in order to get themselves clean, eat and do homework. Your donations will go toward these things. Right now, volunteers that work the center help provide some of these things out of their own pockets b/c these kids have become their kids.
So, Kate and I, we are on a mission to help these kids get off the street and make a path to their future. Through our websites, newsletters and now a DIRTY RED FITNESS CHALLENGE, we will make a difference.
Our journey will begin with what we love to do and that is to workout and stay fit! We feel like we put all this time into our fitness programs, why not do it for a cause. We first heard about StandUp4Kids through our non-profit organization WCSN (Women’s Charity Support and Networking Group). We went to visit the facility and was AMAZED at how the volunteers operated the facility with the help of the kids that are on the street!
